Description

501 602 1 Side Knock Pencil 0,5mm- Bordeaux - silver

"The original idea is more than just a gimmick - it is handy feature on a well-balanced writing instrument.
The rotring Side-Knock comes in classic blue or bordeaux marbled lacquer with silver plated fittings, or in technical matt chrome metallic."
from 2002. catalogue

This beautiful series didn't get much attention and was produced judging by catalogs only from 2001-2005.
System that worked well on 900 series sideknock pencils and ballpoint transferred to this series.
I love the fact that marble finish is unique on each pen.
Also the beautifully detail and surprise for me to find is the small eraser hidden in the screwed bottom cap of pencil.
Rotring is subtly printed on middle of the pen...engraved in silver version.

Was available in 2001. marbled blue and bordeaux with gold plated fittings and whole matt silver body.
From 2002. gold plated was changed to silver plated fittings but article numbers stayed the same.

Series was offered for customization with a logo with screen printing and mill-cut engraving, laser graving only for matt-chrome

Available in series:
R 501 601 1 Side-knock Pencil 0,5mm blue
R 501 602 1 Side-knock Pencil 0,5mm bordeaux
R 501 621 1 Side-knock Pencil 0,5mm Matt chrome

R 032 011 1 Side-knock Ballpoint blue
R 032 012 1 Side-knock Ballpoint bordeaux
R 032 021 1 Side-knock Ballpoint Matt chrome

Sets in Case number 2
R 501 681 1 Side-knock blue
R 501 682 1 Side-knock bordeaux
R 501 691 1 Side-knock Matt chrome

I have also seen black with silver fittings and matt chrome versions with red ring near bottom and rotring engraved in clip. Not shown in any sale catalogs.
There are indications that they were produced for some time after 2005. but not clear info yet.
They where offered in black and silver version as ballpoint pens in 2010.

The only thing I don't like about this series is that it is design shape was obviously strongly inspired by Cross classic Century pencil which has almost identical clip, bottom and overall shape but lacking side knock mechanism.
Also there are now few pens to find which are almost completely the same like italian Oribianco ZHV-ps03G (also made in Japan) or japanise KOKUYO – Mistral PK-M105LM.
Who made it first, still left to discover...but I suspect that it was Japan import from the start.
